MidWeek Magnum – 2018 Triennes Méditerranée Rosé$12 BTG
Every Wednesday Taste Wine Bar & Kitchen hosts Midweek Magnums.
This week’s magnum: 2018 Triennes Méditerranée Rosé
In 1989, two Burgundians, Jacques Seysses, founder of Domaine Dujac, and Aubert de Villaine, of famed Domaine Romané e Conti, joined by their Parisian friend, Michel Macaux, founded Triennes in Provence, France on a gently sloping hillside with a southern exposure in cool microclimate and clay and limestone soils, ideal for viticulture.
The estate formally known as Domaine du Logis de Nans in the Var was renamed Triennes, a reference to Triennia, the festival for Bacchus, which was held every three years during Roman times; the prefix “Tri” serving as a reminder of the three original partners. The three, convinced by their Burgundian experience that the quality of great wines comes from the vineyard, began investing heavily in the renewal and the tending of the vines. The focus on the vineyard remains a priority to this day, creating wine that purely show the expression of the terrior.
This rosé is principally Cinsault blended with Grenache, Syrah and Merlot. The grapes were harvested at night so they are cool upon arrival to the winery, pressed after a few hours of skin contact and fermented at low temperature until dry to keep plenty of acidity and bright fruit flavor. On the nose this wine is a bouquet of strawberries and white flowers with hints of vanilla. It has the harmony and elegance that has earned world-wide appreciation of the rosés of Provence. Triennes rosé is the perfect accompaniment to a sunny summer afternoon.
